Party will start at 4 p.m., basketball game starts at 7 p.m. By Katie Kane for WVUsports.com February 01, 2014 10:56 PM FORT WORTH, Texas - Senior guard Taylor Palmer used a trio of threes in the final minutes to lift the No. 20/24 West Virginia women’s basketball team past TCU, 66-62, Saturday at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. “It was a good game; both teams played hard. Give them a lot of credit and give my girls credit coming back,” coach Mike Carey said. “They went up five that one time in the second half and had the crowd involved and we were able to cut into it. I thought Asya Bussie for us just played a great game and Taylor Palmer hit some shots down the stretch and Jess Harlee did a good job defensively.” The Mountaineers (19-3, 8-2) trailed by six, 52-46, with 7:50 left when Linda Stepney converted a pair of free throws followed by Palmer’s first three of the game to spark a 16-2 run down to the 2:34 mark. Palmer had 11 of WVU’s 16 points in the run, including three treys. TCU’s Zahna Medley converted 4-of-4 from the free throw line, followed by a layup to make it a one-point game with 37 seconds remaining, but Palmer converted three of the final four free throw attempts and Jess Harlee blocked a Medley 3-point attempt with 13 seconds left to seal the win. All of Palmer’s 14 points came in the final 6:35. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s swim team earned their first-ever Big 12 Conference win in a split dual meet at TCU on Saturday. “We had a really solid effort today,” says coach Vic Riggs. “(TCU coach Richard Sybesma) and his staff have a very good team. To come away with our first Big 12 dual meet win on the road is very exciting. There were many contributing members today, but I have to say our divers and depth-position swimmers came up huge today. Overall it was a great team win.” The men’s team earned their win by a score of 167-133, while the women’s team fought hard, but ultimately fell to TCU 164-121. “The ladies did a fine job and it’s one step closer to Big 12s where we swim our best,” says Riggs. Original press release: WVUHealthcare.com 12/18/2013 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU Alumni Association loaded up a little red truck, dashed through the snow, and delivered more than 500 pairs of pajamas to WVU Children’s Hospital today. The pajamas were part of a large community service effort, spearheaded by WVU Alumni Association chapters and volunteers across the country, to bring a little warmth and comfort to kids receiving care at the hospital. Patricia Roe of Austin, Texas, a long-time chapter leader and alumni volunteer, was the true mastermind behind the effort. She encouraged the Alumni Association and Chapters to take on this project, and Mountaineers once again showed their spirit. “Patti really helped us bring this project to fruition, and our alumni outdid themselves. We knew we would have a strong show of support, but the response – more than 500 pairs – is amazing,” Gregg Cave, chapter outreach officer, said. The WVU Alumni Association presented the pajamas to Lora Edgell, Children’s Miracle Network director for WVU Children’s Hospital. Several children even stopped by to pick out their favorite pairs. “What a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season,” Edgell said. “This is a very difficult time for children and their families, and these gifts will certainly brighten their spirits. We are so thankful for the support of the WVU Alumni Association and countless other organizations that support our organization. We can’t wait to see the looks on the kids’ faces when they see these amazing gifts.” This community service effort is just one of many projects implemented by the WVU Alumni Association and its more than 60 alumni chapters. Three years ago, the chapters presented more than 2,000 children’s books to WVU Children’s Hospital. Each year, chapters provide outreach and fundraising efforts in their own communities, including local food banks, orphanages, Adopt-A-Street, Toys for Tots, animal shelters, scholarships, and countless other worthwhile organizations.
